A 21-year-old man was in custody Friday after Galesburg Police responded to gunfire about 3 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release.

Police say a victim was driving a vehicle at the time of the incident. Officers found the victim, who had a grazing gunshot wound to the left shoulder. The victim was treated at the scene, the release says.

The investigation led to a vehicle and possible suspect being identified. On Friday, an arrest warrant for Tomas A. Rubio was obtained with the assistance of the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office. Rubio subsequently turned himself in to the Galesburg Police Friday afternoon.
Rubio was charged with attempted murder and booked into the Knox County Jail, where he remained in custody late Friday.
